Katjuša Bricman – Slovenian

I fell in love with Ireland years ago in 1994, through pictures, photos, documentary presentations and letters that I still keep exchanging with my Irish friends. I had a chance to travel around Ireland and see their culture. I was so impressed, it felt like my own home, so I promised to myself to keep returning to Ireland.

When I heard about Šola irskega plesa , I simply went bananas. I have been dancing since I was six , so I had to try it , so there I was on a course of Irish dancing. I like the courses and although I’m struggling with my free time, I don’t want to stop. A course could be a tough one, but all effort and pain is paid at the end, when you realize what new things you’ve learnt. Every hour is a surprise and a fine party. All credit to Joan, our patient teacher, who is working hard.

I'm delighted to be learning Irish dancing as it's very sociable and we have lots of fun.  It is exactly what one would expect from Irish people ie open, happy and warm-  Our teacher Joan is the same.

It is much more tiring and I sweat  more than I expected, but then I have to admit that I am 34 yrs old and this is the first dance course I have ever attended.  I've been really lucky in choosing this course as it really is perfect for me and suits me so well. Every Saturday during class I am reminded of my wonderful time in Ireland and I get the opportunity to both listen and speak in English. I would highly recommend this.

I learned Irish dancing for a short time as a child and thought I would never have the opportunity to learn it again when I left Ireland, so I was delighted when Šola irskega plesa opened in Ljubljana.  Irish dancing is many things: fun, rewarding, brilliant exercise and a great way to meet new people – I'd definitely recommend it!!

I've been, attending Šola irskega plesa classes for more than a year now and I still can't wait to learn more new steps.  Although in the beginning it appeared difficult, I managed to learn even the most complicated steps thanks to my excellent teacher  and  my colleagues support. In our classess we always have fun, laugh and enjoy ourselves while sweating a lot and using up plenty of energy.  There is always something new happening and nothing ever gets boring.

I definitely recommend Irish dancing. It is an excellent way of gradually getting physically fit, without even being aware of it, but above all it is a great way to meet other people who are interested and involved in Irish dancing.

I do not exactly know when and why I bacame so enthusiastic about Irish dancing, most likely it was because of the lively folk music and above all the lively rythem.  I have never been too enthusistic about group dances, like jazz ballet, hip hop etc., and I never liked step , but Irish dancing is a completely differnt story.  It is a group dance, and at first the steps appear similar to those of step dancing, but Irish dancing is something else completely. I only regret that I didn't start dancing Irish dancing sooner.

All compliments to our teacher Joan.  She is so patient and always full of smiles!!  All credit to her!!

Šola irskega plesa is an excellent opportunity for everybody who wants to feel a bit of Irish culure and at the same time do lots of exercise to Irish music. I've always enjoyed dancing and that was another reason for joining Šola irskega plesa.  I can say for sure it was love at first sight.  The atmosphere is relaxed, our teacher Joan is full of energy, I've made new friends and the best is that Irish dancing doesn't require you to have any special dance background plus it is suitable for all generations.  Come and dance with us!!!

My interest in Ireland started many years ago, when I became interested in Irish traditional music. When I realised, that there was an Irish dancing school in Ljubljana I saw it as a wonderful chance to deepen my interest also from that perspective. The dance itself offers a complete training, which is easy to endure in a wonderful spirit of the group. Our gatherings are not limited to class, but we continue our search for the Irish beat in many other informal events. The magic is even greater during special occasions, when dancing fuses with live music, singing and the discovery of Irish customs.
